Gavin serves as Affiliate Partner Representative for FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) – Jamaica. In this role, he is responsible for the execution of the FTC Programme, which culminates in an annual National Championship where students come together and compete in the largest Robotics Tournament in the Caribbean.

In addition to FTC, he also serves as Local Programme Manager for The FIRST Global Challenge (FGC), which brings high school students together from around the world to participate in a truly International tournament which moves annually.  For Gavin, technology has always been a passion, and after seeing how much being a part of something like robotics can change the trajectory of a young person’s life, he knew that he had to do everything possible to ensure other students had the same opportunity he did. His involvement in robotics began in 2009 when he joined the newly minted robotics team at Jamaica College. Subsequent to that, he has competed at various levels of the program, then transitioned to team coach after graduating. Then naturally got involved in volunteering (primarily as a Judge). That, however, wasn’t quite enough and his passion for robotics compelled him to get involved in bringing FTC to Jamaica in a format that would broaden participation. He is considered a trainer of trainers since he now works closely with the mentors, teachers, and other programme delivery partners locally.

Gavin is an IT Security Professional who has worked with the leading local Managed Services Provider (MSP) and currently works with a US-based Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP). He is a recipient of the Prime Minister’s National Youth Award for Excellence – International Achievement (2014) after representing Jamaica on multiple occasions and in multiple countries.
